Halo: Spartan Strike is coming to Windows Surface, Phone, and Steam this December

Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced Halo: Spartan Strike, which will be heading to Windows Surface, Windows Phone, and Steam.

The date that IGN is reporting it will be coming out is December 14th. However, in IGN's gameplay commentary with 343 producer Fred LaPorte, that date is corrected to being December 12th. So, it's one of those dates.

As the Spartan Strike title implies, this is a spiritual successor to last year's Gold Award-winning Halo: Spartan Assault.

So, yes, this is a top-down twin-stick shooter, but this time the events take place during Halo 2.

This time, the distinctive Halo jeep "Warthog" has been included to drive around in. There's also a completely new vehicle to the Halo series being introduced known as a "Kestrel". It's basically a human version of the Covenant's Ghost hover ship.

The controls have also been refined, with the virtual sticks moving to where ever your thumbs are placed. The grenade throw has also been made more precise.

The idea of this sequel is for it to be a "premium" game, meaning there will be no microtransactions. On that note, Spartan Strike will cost $5.99 and you will get the game across all Windows platforms at that price.

There will also be achievements, 25 weekly challenges, and online leaderboards. There will, once again, be no multiplayer modes.
