Once Human: The best Deviants and where to find them
Once Human has many different Deviants, and we'll go over a few of the best as well as where to obtain them!
- Once Human has many different collectable monsters, called Deviants
- This guide highlights the most useful of them
- This guide also informs you of where to find these Deviants
Within the world of the recently released sci-fi MMO/Survival game Once Human, there are a fair few little creatures you can capture and use both in your home base and during combat. These are called Deviants, and they are spread throughout the world, collectable through various methods that range from grinding dungeon drops to farming and harvesting wheat, and many others in between. Today, we're going to help you find Once Human's best Deviants.
Electric Eel
During my time in Once Human, the single most useful Deviant I have found is the Electric Eel. At face value, he might not seem that great, as his ability is inherently tied to your base building. All the eel does is provide more electricity to your generators, regardless of whether they’re solar panels or electrical generators.
This ability seems pretty basic at first, but as you progress, you’ll find you’ll need a large supply of expensive electrical facilities to keep up with the power demand requested by your crafting machines. This Deviant helps you avoid those expensive crafting recipes and get a large buff to your electricity pool without much work.
All you have to do to catch this one is fish at any water source until you get him. He’s not too rare of a drop, so it shouldn’t take much grinding.
Digby Boy
The Digby Boy is objectively the best Deviant in Once Human, and luckily for us, extremely easy to find. This cube-shaped fella will passively grind ores and rocks for you while you’re away from the base and can gather up to around 300 of three different ores from your base’s region. If you gather three or four and plop them in your base, you’ll essentially have an endless supply of all the ore you need without having to farm for it yourself.
Digby Boys can be found simply by mining any ore in the world, though it seems Tin drops them far more often than any other node.
Festering Gel
Another really simple Deviant to find as he drops from the main quest as you progress through it. The Festering Gel is likely the best combat option in my own opinion, tied with the next Deviant we’ll discuss.
Festering Gel can be used to plop down a fortified wall, which can be used as cover during combat. While that is fairly weak by itself, the wall has a passive healing field around it, rapidly healing your HP and your Sanity, which can be quite a pain to manage during late-game activities as the Sanity restoration pills are a very rare drop. Festering Gel essentially lets you circumvent the Sanity mechanic entirely due to its healing rates, so be sure to take him into raids and boss fights where your Sanity debuffs will stack up quickly.
Lonewolf’s Whisper
Much like the Festering Gel, the Lonewolf’s Whisper drops late into the Once Human’s main quest and is another great option for a combat Deviant if you want something that also helps out your damage.
Upon use, Lonewolf’s Whisper will summon a shadow wolf creature that will hunt down whatever you target. It doesn’t have a ton of health, but it does do a decent amount of damage. The primary reason it’s so useful, however, is because it takes aggro from enemies and will tank the attention of numerous enemies at once, allowing you to take all the shots you want in the meantime. On top of this, whatever target Lonewolf’s Whisper hits will also take increased weapon damage, so it’s an excellent option for combat scenarios.
What about other Deviants?
There are plenty more Deviants in Once Human’s world and most of them are useful in their own ways, but if you can collect the ones specifically mentioned here, you’ll be set for the mid-to-late game without much trouble. So get out there and catch ‘em all!
