Is Asus developing a VR headset? It sure looks like it

Asus didn't announce a VR headset as part of its Computex 2016 press event, but tucked away behind glass in Asus' demo area was a statement that Asus are stepping up to the mobile VR space: a headset with the name 'Asus VR' in it.

It's a big step for Asus, especially as they've previously said that they consider AR a bigger priority than VR. This means we're probably looking at quite an early concept of the VR headset which explains why information is so thin on the ground.

The lack of info is likely then, because it still needs to be finalised. I choose to believe it is, instead, because Asus want to keep us nervously checking RSS feeds for information at 2am when we should be sleeping.

So, what do we know? It has a touchpad with a few buttons on the side, something that'll feel familiar if you've taken a look at the Daydream-compatible ZTE VR. It's got some fancy leather straps on the side much like Asus's ZenWatch.

Speculation here would suggest we're looking at one of the first third-party Daydream headsets, potentially even a ZenVR, but that's just me spinning a narrative; hopefully Asus will officially announce it soon.
