Meet Dungeon, Epic's debut game for Google Daydream
This'll also probably be Epic
Earlier today we told you that Epic are bringing Unreal Engine 4 to Google's mobile VR platforms. Epic are also working on a new virtual reality game exclusive for the Daydream platform.
Epic's app, currently dubbed Dungeon, will make the most of Daydream's unique features. At its base level Dungeon is a tech demo, similar to Epic's Bullet Train, that's being created with the intention of seeing how far they can push the technology and what can be done with the controller.
Dungeon's a fantasy role-playing game where you're throwing fireballs using a wand, drinking potions and munching on apples to regain health. As you can guess from the working title, this'll be taking place largely in a dungeon for now.
It sounds similar in tone to Nethack, Crystal Rift or Legend of Grimrock but if Epic can do for dungeon crawlers what they did for shooters with Bullet Train, this'll be a must play. Epic are experimenting with a "three-degrees-of-freedom" controller for the first time, and trying to work out their own best practices.
Bullet Train was the result of Epic trying to get their head around Oculus's Touch controllers, so it's definitely something to keep an eye on. Despite the game being a little simpler, due to the constraints of mobile VR over a PC, we'll hopefully see Epic's expertise with motion controllers shining through in the game.
