  • Puzzle Maniac is an upcoming mobile indie project
  • Play over ten different varieties of puzzles in your quest to save the princess
  • Relatively simple, but not shallow, is this the next home-grown success story?

Puzzles, puzzles, puzzles. With all the puzzle games out there in the world you'd think we'd be a society of geniuses by now. But, it seems that for some people all those smarts go into playing Candy Crush instead of, say, building a rocket ship. Still, there's no time like the present for another one to leap into the arena, and today's subject is the upcoming indie project Puzzle Maniac.

Puzzle Maniac is best described as simple, but engaging. It's not the most polished-looking game, nor is it the most in-depth. But for what it lacks in those aspects it makes up for in passion and a sort of pseudo-throwback atmosphere of early 2000s puzzlers, although admittedly even this seems to have fallen under the shadow of some AI-generated art assets.

Still, there's some good human-made content here too. With ten different puzzles to play, and presumably many variations on those, there's plenty of variety. Right now, Puzzle Maniacs is in pre-alpha, and the developer reached out to us to show off the game, with a launch planned for November this year.

I'm not so sure

Of course, we wouldn't be putting it out there if there wasn't an opportunity to at least check it out. So if the trailer hasn't pulled you in, be sure to take a look at the demo over on the game's itch.io page, where you can download the APK and give it a try for free. Who knows? Maybe we'll be reporting on Puzzle Maniac's massive success in a few months time.

In the meantime, if you need new games to play with the weekend just around the corner, why not check out the latest entry in our regular feature of the top five new mobile games to try this week?

And if you somehow run that one dry, there's always the list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) to check!
