  • Arknights developer Yostar is expanding their studio with a new team
  • Hiring calls are already out, and their website reveals the team will be focused on a whole new IP
  • Developed for mobile, this could mean a new game completely outside the Arknights universe

Arknights developer Yostar, hot off the heels of their upcoming appearance at Gamescom to promote Arknights: Endfield, has also announced the formation of a new mobile development team. As revealed on their website, the studio is looking to recruit a variety of new developers for the team, intending to create a whole new IP and a potential new mobile game.

For those of you not in the know, IP (meaning 'intellectual property') usually means an overall franchise. So we can intimate from this that Yostar are looking to develop an entirely new game, and series, separate from Arknights. If that's the case then this is definitely interesting news, because it presents an even greater increase of competition in the genre.

As we've often postulated, since the launch of Genshin Impact the popularity of 3D open-world ARPGs on mobile has shot into the stratosphere. Whether that's heavy hitters like MiHoyo, Yostar, Kuro Games or beyond, virtually everyone is trying to get into the genre.

What's so important?

In this case, we should look at MiHoYo. Right now they have three major games (Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail & Zenless Zone Zero) capturing three different genres (sci-fi, fantasy, etc) but with similar gameplay. What Yostar seems to be doing is following their lead, and possibly attempting to have multiple games that also appeal to audiences who enjoy different settings. They already have a sci-fi offering in Aether Gazer, so the question remains, what would this new game be, and what's its setting?

In the meantime if you're looking for games that are out now that you can play and enjoy, why not get started by checking out our list of the top five new games to try this week?

And once you're done with that, well there are still even more great games to play in our mega-list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far)!
