A confusing story that's challenging to piece together
Charming Anime-style graphics
Order Daybreak is a new mobile MMORPG from developer Neocraft Limited that melds sci-fi and post-apocalyptic genres. You play as an Aegis Warrior who must gather allies to amass a force capable of taking on the corruption that wreaks havoc across the land.
Order Daybreak features Four Classes
The game features four-player classes to choose from: SwiftBlade, Slayer, Gunslinger, and Seer. The SwiftBlade is a Melee Brawler who deals Damage Over Time, while the Slayer carries a large sword and focuses on dealing area-of-effect damage. Naturally, the Gunslinger uses a gun, while the Seer wields a staff and offers buffs and healing. The anime-style character designs make each class feel intriguing.
The game’s combat is rather enjoyable. And allows you to either control your character manually or use the auto feature. You’ll have a basic attack which you can use anytime as well as multiple skills, each with a cooldown period. Combat is fast-paced and action-packed so you're sure to enjoy it.
Partner Up in Order Daybreak
There are also partners you can summon and bring with you on your adventures. You can bring two partners with you at a time to utilize their special skills in combat. There are quite a few of these companions to unlock and upgrade, including Eno, who uses ice-based attacks; Rachel, whose Ether Field ability heals you; and Claymore, wielding Lal. Each partner features a lovely anime character design, which makes collecting them fun. You can level up your partners and their skills to become more formidable in battle.
If you’re unsure where to go next you can tap on a quest listing in the upper left corner of the screen and your character will automatically find a path to your next destination. While this may be annoying to some, it’s a great feature for those of us with poor spatial reasoning and map reading skills.
Order Daybreak: A Confusing Story
As for the game’s story, it’s a bit hard to follow. The game doesn't have many cinematics, so the story is primarily told through dialogue and text boxes. There’s mention of travelling through time and space, but it’s not really explained. You’ll soon find yourself in Shelter 9, where you'll attempt to gain access to Babylonia. Though it’s not made particularly clear at first, Babylonia is, after gaining access to this new territory, that you'll get into the thick of battle.
As it turns out, Babylonia is a tower full of enemies with each level more challenging than the last. Here you’ll battle an array of foes such as Mimetic Guards and earn awesome rewards for each floor you clear.
A Fairly Fun RPG
Order Daybreak is a rather decent MMORPG for mobile. The combat, while in no way earth-shattering, is certainly entertaining and the anime-style graphics make the sci-fi post-apocalyptic setting feel more distinct.
On the downside, the story is confusing at best, and I often found myself skipping dialogue since listening to it didn’t really help me understand what was going on. However, if the lack of a compelling narrative isn’t a dealbreaker for you, Order Daybreak is certainly worth the download.
Order Daybreak Review - "A fun RPG with a convoluted plot"
Order Daybreak offers entertaining combat and an intriguing sci-fi world. However, the plot is hard to follow making it difficult to become too invested in the characters and world.
