Get a first look at Squid Game: Unleashed on Gamescom opening night
  • Squid Game: Unleashed will receive its first official showcase at Gamescom
  • August 20th opening night will give us the first glimpse of the game and how it plays
  • All we know so far is that it's a multiplayer title where friends go head-to-head

Netflix Games have officially unveiled their first tease of the upcoming Squid Game, well, game. Squid Game: Unleashed will get a full showcase at Gamescom's opening night in Cologne on August 20th. And while you may be missing out if you're not attending, we're pretty sure that post-showcase there'll be some more exciting news to share.

We don't know much about Squid Game: Unleashed right now, apart from the name and the visual we've attached as a header. However, given Netflix Games has been quite decent about releasing titles without any in-app purchases or other free-to-play considerations, we can assume that the field is fairly open. They did confirm in the very first announcement that it would be a multiplayer title, so that much we do know.

I'd hazard a guess that it'd be something along the lines of Fall Guys, or maybe a series of puzzle minigames. Certainly, the key visual gives me the vibe of something like the sorely missed GO series of games (if you remember those.) But, as noted above, we'll just have to wait until Squid Game: Unleashed is revealed at Gamescom's opening night before we find out more.

No time for squids

Of course, aside from Squid Game's fairly admirable aspects of being a highly-praised work of social commentary, the series has faded from the limelight somewhat. So I'm definitely a little concerned that this might affect the game somewhat. But conversely, with a new season of the show around the corner, maybe that'll help form the boost the series needs?

In any case, if you want to find some great games that you can play right now, there's no better place to start than with our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far).
