Who's getting first dibs on the Xbox Mobile Store?
And will it launch in time for the end of July?
- The Xbox Mobile store may be accessible very soon
- As spotted by Windows Central, however, this may only be early access
- We've seen the Xbox Mobile store state they want to come to as many devices as possible
You may remember back in May when we reported on Xbox president Sarah Bond proclaiming that they would have a mobile store up by July of this year. Well, it seems that time is right around the corner, and not a moment too soon!
As reported by the folks over at Windows Central, a web page for early access to the Xbox Mobile store was spotted online. Judging by the error message, at the moment this is planned to be rolled out to those participating in the Xbox Insiders program first.
This would, of course, technically meet the remits of what Bond announced. So, we may be getting the Xbox Mobile store initially for those on the Insider Program, with public access on the way later.
The big thing about the Xbox Mobile store is that it's planned to come to as many devices and ecosystems as possible, irrespective of the policies they have. You may recognise this as being the similar gripe and approach that Epic Games has taken with their own upcoming store, and it seems they've started something of a trend.
However, just how well that'll work in practice is something we'll have to wait and see about. For now, we're looking at a potential early-access release, and when or if that happens we'll finally get our first look at what this store is actually like, and what it can offer.
If you're not too fussed about the Xbox lineup however, you can always take a gander at our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far) to find some games that you are into.
And if that's not enough we also have another list of the most anticipated mobile games of the year, featuring dozens of top picks from upcoming releases!
