Knight Brawl review - "Another super impressive Colin Lane game you should be playing"

| Knight Brawl

Knight Brawl is almost the zenith of Colin Lane's series of brawling games. It builds on the work of every other slightly weird fighter in the dev's library, and it's every bit as good as the games that came before it.

The only thing really missing here is multiplayer, which would have made Knight Brawl pretty much perfect. As it stands, it's just really, really, really good. That's obviously not a bad thing, but this is a review, so we're going to have to be a little picky.

Brawl in

If you've played another Colin Lane game, you're going to understand what's going on here from the get-go. You've got a couple of buttons that let you move around, one to jump, and another that swings your weapon.

There are no slashes here though, your weapon moves in an arc around your body. If it hits the floor it's going to launch you upwards. Double tap a direction button and you'll dash in that direction.

Your knight, and all the knights you're fighting, have a shield, a suit of armour, a helmet, and a weapon. You need to get the defensive items off them - you can't kill a knight if he's in armour, but you can smash it off with enough hits.

There are different modes to try out, but the basic aim is the same - kill as many knights as you can. It's not just a case of mashing them to bits either - if you're smart you can finish off enemies much quicker by pushing them off the edge of the level.

You can combine your moveset in a number of really interesting ways as well - you can dash in midair, use your weapon swing to get more air on your jump, and a variety of other combos that change up the potential of each button tap.

That sort of stuff you're left to figure out on your own, and a nice progression system that sees you spending gold to get new weapons, armour, and other equipment. The stronger you get, the more coins you'll win, and the more powerful gear you can buy.

Knight fall

There are challenges here as well, so there's always something for you to be doing to earn more. The frantic fun is good enough on its own, but the extra pieces built on top of it make for an experience that you're going to keep coming back to time and time again.

With a multiplayer mode added onto all the goodness that's already here, Knight Brawl would be in serious contention for the shiny Platinum Award we give to only the finest mobile games - even without it, it's a game that you should be downloading and playing right this second.

It might not have multiplayer, but other than that Knight Brawl is pretty much spot on
