Pokémon Go has introduced item sharing for some players

The highly-requested item-sharing feature in Niantic's creature-catching game Pokémon Go is now live. That's at least according to some players on Reddit, who have reported being able to access the feature. But how does it work? And what can you expect?
The basic idea is that when you use an item with a benefit, such as an increased encounter rate, you'll also share part of that benefit with other party members. According to reports from players, it appears to provide half the item's usual duration for all members regardless of party size.
The obvious benefits are that if you're playing with friends who might just be starting out or are a bit behind, you can share the effects of items you've collected. That means they don't need to waste however few of them they may be acquiring at an early level while getting the most out of an early-game boost.
While it may seem relatively minor, we reckon there's a little more to the addition of this feature. For one, as far as quality-of-life features go it's fairly significant since it benefits both early-level players and returning veterans. Since Niantic struggled, for a time, to keep its player base up, this move could be seen as a way to get new players in and have them invested enough to keep coming back.
Either way, it's great for those of you frequently playing with friends and family.
