The Battle of Polytopia's Aquarion Tribe is getting a massive rework

Something fishy is going on

The Battle of Polytopia's Aquarion Tribe is getting a massive rework
  • The Battle of Polytopia's Aquarion tribe is getting a major rework
  • All your land units are now amphibious, and Aquarion can build on water
  • You can also uncover ruined cities in the ocean and raise them up for new building space!

If there's anything that's true of virtually any strategy game, it's that the bigger it gets, the more work you have to do to keep factions competitive. I say that as an avid Total War player, and now fans of The Battle of Polytopia are finally getting that sweet, sweet rework attention as a major overhaul for the Aquarion tribe has been announced.

This seafaring faction was one of the first tribes to be added, so a rework of their core mechanics has been long overdue. And the biggest change has been the addition of mermaid tails to all of Aquarion's land units. Essentially this makes them super-fast in water, but slower on land, with their units either being solely aquatic or amphibious.

Additionally, there's a new terrain type called Flooded, which can be navigated by both land and sea units (although slower for the latter). You'll be able to research tech that allows you to flood the land and bring your units right to the enemy's doorstep, letting you live out your deluge-causing fantasies.

And yes, before you ask, you can now build on water, meaning you can place any land buildings on water tiles. You can even bring up submerged ruins to make your own sea-bound cities, transforming all tiles around them into coastal terrain!

All of this, and more, promises to make Aquarion the pseudo-Atlantis faction they were always intended to be, and promises both a flavorful faction to play and a powerful opponent to contend with. You can check out all the details on the game's Steam page for a detailed changelog.
