Wuthering Waves guide - 7 tips to calm the waves
You'll be a bit confused when you first start up the game, since there are so many options it's overwhelming. These Wuthering Waves tips are here to clear that up.
We're in a strange online gaming era dominated by games that draw a lot of inspiration from anime and Donghua (the Chinese equivalent). It's an era where a majority of the characters look like high-school students, but are probably much older due to magic or science or because they're not even really humans (or whatever fits more comfortably in your head).
Genshin Impact is still pulling in numbers, Honkai Star Rail pulled into the station to a crowded platform, and now there's the even more recent Wuthering Waves, which is a sci-fi magic fantasy story in an alternative universe.
Do yourself a favour and try not to look too closely at the plot and lore of the game - there just simply isn't enough corkboard and red string. What you should focus on is the 3D solo MMORPG - you'll be playing a human-looking character affectionately called "Rover", who arrives on a planet where everything is soundwave-based.
You need to be able to tune into it, but sound-based entities are just as physical as regular ones so you can smack down their bad notes. A lot is going on in Wuthering Waves, so here are some tips that can help you out.
1
Tip #1 - Match your attack timing
You may be imbued with power from beyond time and space or something, but you have a definite weakness to monsters (called Discords) hitting you in the face and everywhere else. When you're fighting monsters, they all have a certain rhythm that they follow and will switch it up based on whether you're on the offence or defence. You can bait monsters into attacking by striking with combos until they start using distinct attacks. Look for the golden glows and match your strikes to the resonating rings to do heavy damage and briefly stun enemies. The more you do this, the more your Resonance energy will build up.

Tip #2 - Have a varied group of Resonators
Like Genshin Impact, you'll have a team of ageless romantic drama cast members following you around, but they'll never be on the field at the same time. Your selected teammates will instead be in some nether space until they're called into battle. When they are, they'll instantly replace Rover and enter with an impact attack. As you've probably figured out just by looking at the game, each Resonator is different in their own ways through stats, behaviours, default gear, and abilities. The more diverse your team is, the more situations you'll be able to tackle and Rover can be built to cover any holes in your team strategy.

Tip #3 - Play around with Echoes
This game has a little bit of Pokemon in it when it comes to how you'll interact with the remains of Discords called Echoes. When slaying Discords, there's a chance they'll leave behind a glowing after-image known as an Echo. These can be absorbed and stored in the cyberpunk gourd that is taking up perfectly good fanny-pack space. Whenever you absorb an Echo, you'll improve your connection level and gain access to that Discord's form and specialized ability. They can be equipped in the reserve slots or the active slot. When active, Echoes provide an additional skill that lets you briefly transform into them to see how they affect the battle.

Tip #4 - Seek out Resonance Nexuses
As with most strange worlds that may or may not be virtual (or some headache-inducing abstract concept), you have no idea where you are or what things look like. No one is going around selling maps, but folks are building high-tech signposts around the land. These are the Resonance Nexuses and as you can guess, Resonators can link to them. Every time you see one of these things poking out of the ground, you should head over to it and link up. Once you do, you'll get some rewards and the Nexus will do its thing of revealing a large portion of the map and sending it directly to your databank.

Tip #5 - Collect EVERYTHING
Since this is a solo MMORPG, you can no longer rely on the kindness of strangers…who aren't NPCs. You'll be building up Rover to be the character that you want them to be as you go through the story and complete missions. This means that you'll be spending a lot of time running around this vast world, looking for anything interesting and fighting anything that rubs you the wrong way. Of course, you'll encounter a lot of materials like plants and minerals just waiting to be picked. If it glows, it has some kind of value, so do your best to collect as much as you carry.

Tip #6 - Have a weapon for each occasion
When you start, you'll have a training sword that serves its function of slicing, slashing, and being thrown like a razor-sharp hula hoop. It leads you into the combat so that you can get a feel for fighting, rhythm, impact, and enemy tactics. After a while, you'll get some new weapons and Resonators with default attack styles. Use the different weapon types so that you can see how they perform, test their timing, and whether some are better suited to your play style. This is a game that supports both cowboys and swordsmen, even though there are no actual cows.

Tip #7 - Follow up on Events
Since this is an online world created just for you, nothing really happens unless you're there to participate. Events and seasons may pass, but you only have the game's word for it if you don't actively participate in any of them. Always check the feed and alerts for new announcements and updates since that's one of the easier ways to quality gear. The story missions are fine and dandy, but the events are where a lot of the game's flair is. They give you something new to break up the routine and end with a reward for your efforts. You can always find the calendar on the official Wuthering Waves website.
