The Epic Games store and a number of games submitted to Apple for final notarization
One of the final steps needed
- The Epic Games Store's launch on iOS could be even closer than we expect
- It's set to hit mobile sometime this year after the final notarization was submitted
- The launch may prove to be egg on the face of Apple
The Epic Games Store for iOS has reached perhaps the final major milestone before launch, as it and a number of Epic Games titles have been submitted for final notarization (approval). The process is basically a rubber stamp, as far as we know, and already the Epic Games newsroom is crowing about the upcoming launch of the Epic Games Store.
"Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe and the Epic Games Store have all been submitted to Apple for final notarization. Stay tuned for the launch of the Epic Games Store on iOS in Europe soon!" is how the statement goes.
Assuming all goes well, which is far from guaranteed, we could expect the official launch of the EU Epic Games Store on iOS before the end of the year. This would be a major egg on the face for Apple after years of duking it out with Epic over their initial rejection of the 30% transaction fee that has made the iOS App Store somewhat infamous.
Of course, there's a whole lot more on the platter of Apple than just these notarizations. The platform holder recently came under fire for apparently forcing creator support site Patreon to switch over to their payment systems on iOS, enforcing the dreaded 30% transaction fee.
If Epic Games on iOS does go ahead and proves to be more popular than the App Store, it could be the beginning of the end for Apple's monopoly on their own devices.
