Placid Duck Simulator is precisely what it says on the tin, in soft launch on Netflix
And no, it's not a horror game surprisingly enough
- Placid Plastic Duck Simulator is Netflix Games' newest release on mobile
- In soft launch in the Philippines, according to some reports, it's precisely what it says on the tin
- Observe your plastic ducks at rest and collect unique achievements
As spotted by the folks over at TouchArcade, Netflix Games has apparently put out a new title in soft launch (although only in the Philippines). And their latest acquisition is the fittingly-named Placid Plastic Duck Simulator, where you get to watch a variety of adorable plastic ducks floating peacefully around a swimming pool.
Now, you may be forgiven for looking at Placid Plastic Duck Simulator and expecting the other shoe to drop. Because with the grainy VHS filter and such a seemingly barebones core concept, surely there must be some kind of weird meta-horror angle here?
Well, from everything I could find, no, this is the game. However, for whatever reason, be that the calming atmosphere or many different ducks and secret achievements to uncover, Placid Plastic Duck Simulator has sat at a very desirable Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam.
Now, I have to admit that if Placid Plastic Duck Simulator does go worldwide, it'd be very interesting. Because it shows that Netflix is still willing to take a chance on, shall we say, 'experimental' games. Because when they're trying to draw in an audience with games based on shows like Too Hot to Handle, the idea of a plastic duck simulation game might seem totally at odds.
Not that I'm complaining. If Netflix Games manages to balance out crowd-pleasing additions with unique titles like Placid Plastic Duck Simulator, I'd call it a win-win scenario for players and streaming platforms alike.
