Slow-mo shooting at its spookiest

El Paso, Elsewhere is your crossover between Max Payne and John Constantine, coming soon to iOS
  • El Paso, Elsewhere, takes you miles below the desert
  • Battle vampires, werewolves and worse as you fight to save innocent lives
  • A slow-mo mix of David Lynch, John Carpenter and John Woo that's already caught some eyes hits iOS

Somewhere in the town of El Paso, Texas, an average motel has suddenly gained an extra 46 stories, leading underground. And it's your job to clear them out from all the fallen angels, werewolves and worse that have decided to take residence. Welcome to El Paso, Elsewhere.

Mixing Max Payne and John Constantine in a blender seems to get you a slow-mo third-person shooter that made its mark on PC a few years ago. And now you'll soon be able to play El Paso, Elsewhere on an iOS device near you as the game is set to release for the App Store on September 17th.

A neo-noir story, promising-looking shooting mechanics, hordes of enemies to battle and varied environments to explore all offer some promising content for this game. And with El Paso, Elsewhere having already made its mark on consoles and PC, I'm excited to see it come to mobile.

A bit of a marmite game?

El Paso, Elsewhere promises to be an interesting game if nothing else, judging by the critical response. However, some do highlight the fact that this is unashamedly a game for an audience at the intersection of David Lynch and John Woo, so don't expect the broad, bland appeal of something like Call of Duty or even the aforementioned Max Payne.

But if your tastes for shooters are surreal and spooky, but just as flashy, El Paso, Elsewhere may be the shooter you've been waiting for.

In the meantime, while you're waiting for the launch of El Paso, Elsewhere, you can always have a go at some of the fantastic titles which we've ranked on our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far).

And if you want some specific picks, then creepy side-scrolling platformer Spooky Pixel Hero might be right up your alley, with just as much surreal, meta-horror to keep you awake at night.
