PUBG Mobile publisher Krafton snaps up devs behind the hit Hi-Fi Rush, Tango Gameworks
A possible mobile game on the horizon?

- The company snapped up not just the company, but also rights to the Hi-Fi Rush IP
- The rhythm game proved to be a surprise hit
It's big news in the land of video game necromancy, as PUBG Mobile publisher Krafton has announced that they have acquired Tango Gameworks; the studio behind the hit rhythm game Hi-Fi Rush. The deal includes not only the developer's name and current team but also the Hi-Fi Rush IP as a whole.
It comes after Tango Gameworks was slated to be shut down by Microsoft, despite the success of Hi-Fi Rush. The studio, which was also behind the Evil Within duology, will now persist with Krafton planning to create more games capitalising on Hi-Fi Rush's popularity.
Of course, it may be out of the frying pan and into the metaphorical fire with some console titles from Krafton like Callisto Protocol being criticised by developers for being pushed out of the metaphorical door. Of course, with multiple factors such as Covid and miscommunication going into that, Tango Gameworks could very much be on the road to recovery now.
Of course, it wouldn't be us if we didn't at least speculate about Hi-Fi Rush coming in some form to mobile. Not a port (at least, probably), but we'd be surprised if Krafton's recent efforts in mobile didn't translate into some kind of spinoff or perhaps a crossover appearance.
In the meantime, however, if Tango Gameworks thrives under Krafton's leadership it could end up as egg on the face of Microsoft for a developer they seemed to consider expendable instead of ending up growing under another owner's purview.
